How do I work out the fuel cost of a journey?
Multiply the distance by your car's fuel use and divide by 100 to get the litres, then multiply by the price a litre. 300 km in a car that uses 7 L/100km takes 21 litres.
How much does it cost to drive 100 km?
At this month's average gas price in Canada ($1.74 a litre): $8.69 in a car that uses 5 L/100km, $12.17 in a car that uses 7 L/100km, $17.38 in a car that uses 10 L/100km.
Is diesel cheaper to run than gas?
Diesel costs $2.28 a litre today against $1.74 a litre for petrol, so a diesel has to use less fuel to cost less: about 31% less.
