Why supermarket fuel is cheaper

Supermarkets use fuel to bring shoppers in, so they keep their pump prices low and make their money in the shop.

Is supermarket fuel the same quality?

Yes. All petrol sold in the UK meets the same standard (EN 228) and all diesel meets EN 590, and supermarket fuel comes from the same refineries. Premium fuels like Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate add extra cleaning additives, but standard supermarket fuel is fine for any car.

About these prices

Live prices from the UK government's Fuel Finder scheme at every Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Costco forecourt. “Other forecourts” leaves out motorway services, which would make supermarkets look even cheaper.
