How do I work out the fuel cost of a journey?

Multiply the distance by your car's fuel use and divide by 100 to get the litres, then multiply by the price a litre. 300 km in a car that uses 7 L/100km takes 21 litres.

How much does it cost to drive 100 km?

At today's average petrol price in New Zealand ($2.94 a litre): $14.70 in a car that uses 5 L/100km, $20.58 in a car that uses 7 L/100km, $29.40 in a car that uses 10 L/100km.

Is diesel cheaper to run than petrol?

Diesel costs $2.34 a litre today against $2.94 a litre for petrol, so a diesel that uses the same fuel costs less.
