Hahndorf was settled by Lutheran immigrants in 1839 and the main street still has the old stone buildings. It is touristy, but the bakeries, the Hahndorf Academy gallery and the nearby farm shops make it a useful half-day stop between Adelaide and the Murray. Quieter side streets are well worth a wander.
