A short loop begins just off Te Kapua Road and heads first to an open grassy area beside the first big kahikatea, with views of the river cliffs and the Ruahine Ranges. It then drops into forest of matai, rimu, tawa and titoki. There are some steep sections and rockfall warnings.

- Track is slippery and boggy when wet
