A level track in the Omahuta Kauri Sanctuary leads to what is left of a giant felled kauri, a good way to see how big these trees grew. The bush around it is regenerating manuka and young taraire, kohekohe and rimu. It sits at the end of a long back road between the Hokianga and the Bay of Islands.
