From the Catchpool car park the track climbs for about an hour and a half through forest with nikau and a grove of northern rata, then drops to swimming holes at Turere Stream. Toilets are at the Orongorongo River beyond. It is a good half-day out of Wellington.

- If the ford is flowing, park before it and walk the Nga Taonga nature walk
- No cell reception on the track
