Off Wainui Road, a short track leads to the high point of Tauwhare Pa, which overlooks Ohiwa Harbour. On a clear day you can see Moutohora, Whakaari/White Island and Hikurangi maunga. The pa site has a kumara pit and remnants of its trenches and palisades.
