The path leaves Grasmere through the lanes, climbs beside Sourmilk Gill, a long white cascade, and arrives at a tarn tucked into a bowl beneath Tarn Crag. It is about 4.5 miles return with a steady climb and stays popular because the route is easy to follow. Tearooms back in Grasmere make a good finish.
