Beatrix Potter bought Hill Top in 1905 with income from her books and wrote several of them here. The National Trust keeps the house as she left it, so you spot rooms and objects that appear in her illustrations. The cottage garden is small but pretty, and rooms are limited so it works best with a pre-booked slot.
