Lowther Castle and Gardens

Lowther, North West England

A gutted castle with restored gardens and one of the biggest adventure playgrounds around.

Lowther Castle was largely demolished in 1957, leaving a dramatic shell with gardens being brought back to life around it. There is an exhibition, a café, cycle hire and a large adventure playground built into a fictional lost castle. Dogs are welcome on leads, and the site is a good rainy-day alternative to the fells.
