Magpie Mine is a well-preserved disused lead mine near Sheldon, with the engine house and chimney still standing in an open field. Lead was worked here from at least the 17th century, and the walled enclosure of five mines is a protected scheduled monument. It is a good short stop if you are cutting across the limestone plateau between Bakewell and Buxton.
