How do I calculate the gas cost of a trip?
Divide the miles by your car's MPG to get the gallons, then multiply by the price a gallon. 300 miles at 30 MPG takes 10 gallons.
How much does it cost to drive 100 miles?
At today's average gas price in the US ($4.35 a gallon): $14.51 in a car that gets 30 mpg, $9.67 in a car that gets 45 mpg, $7.26 in a car that gets 60 mpg.
Is diesel cheaper to run than gas?
Diesel costs $6.20 a gallon today against $4.35 a gallon for regular, so a diesel has to use less fuel to cost less: about 42% less.
