How do I work out the fuel cost of a journey?
Multiply the distance by your car's fuel use and divide by 100 to get the litres, then multiply by the price a litre. 300 km in a car that uses 7 L/100km takes 21 litres.
How much does it cost to drive 100 km?
At today's average petrol price in Australia ($2.41 a litre): $12.07 in a car that uses 5 L/100km, $16.90 in a car that uses 7 L/100km, $24.14 in a car that uses 10 L/100km.
Is diesel cheaper to run than petrol?
Diesel costs $2.87 a litre today against $2.41 a litre for petrol, so a diesel has to use less fuel to cost less: about 19% less.
