Car tax check

Is it taxed, and when is it due? Type the registration to see the DVLA's record, with its MOT and ULEZ too.

Questions

How do I check if a car is taxed?

Type its registration above. The check reads the DVLA's register and shows whether it's taxed, untaxed or declared off the road (SORN), and the date its tax is due.

What does SORN mean?

Statutory Off Road Notification: the keeper has told the DVLA the car is kept off public roads, so it doesn't need tax. It can't be driven or parked on a public road.

Does the tax go with the car when it's sold?

No. Tax doesn't transfer to a new keeper; the buyer taxes the car themselves before driving it, and the seller gets a refund for full months left.
