Blue John Cavern is another of Castleton's four show caves, up the hill above the village near the Mam Tor road. The cave is known for Blue John, a banded purple-blue form of fluorspar that has been mined here for centuries and turned into jewellery and ornaments. Tours go down through large natural chambers, and the shop sells pieces made from the stone.
